Enertech 40,000W Wind Generator

From 1982 through 1986 approximately 750 Enertech wind turbines were installed in wind farms in the United States and other countries.  Because of the sound and simple design of these turbines most are still in operation today.  Now a limited number of these turbines have been taken out of service, refurbished and are available for sale as a turn-key package including installation and a one year warranty.

This is an excellent opportunity for utility customers in areas of the country with good wind resources to offset their electric bills and even sell excess power generated back to the utility.  This is best suited for customers with large electricity usage because the greatest economic benefit is for the KWHs that are offset by this generation rather than the excess you sell back.  The reason is in most areas of the US, power companies only pay you back a fraction of the rate that you pay them for energy use.

There are also Federal and state incentives for wind generators which may include:

FEDERAL

+ 1.8 cents per kWH energy tax credit which rises to a cap of 3 cents
+ capital gains exempt for 10 years
+ 5 year depreciation of business at 100%, up to 48% the first year
+ 100% depreciation of personal over 10 years
+ some incentives end December 31, 2001 but will most likely be extended

STATE (may vary)

+ property tax exempt
+ sales tax exempt
+ 1.5 cents per kWH state of Minnessota energy incentive
+ Minnessota rebates at the retail kWH rate for one wind generator up to 40kW

Remember to check if your state offers rebates for wind power installations that can offset a substantial portion of the purchase price.   Also consider the net metering laws for your state to see how any excess generation is billed.

NOTE: Output characteristics may vary due to specific site and climatic conditions.  Output is based on sea level air density and 60F temperature.

Users experienced with this wind turbine installed at their sites report the following results.

Cost to install about $50,000.  Assumed life 20 years.   Output about 70,000 kWH per year.  Operation and maintenance costs 1.7 cents per kWH including one overhaul every 7 years.  Resulting power cost 5.4 cents per kWH.  This was reported by one user in 1996.

Average wind speed 13 mph.   Capacity factor 23%.  Output 80,000 kWH per year.  Turbine operates on line about 60% of the time.

Energy production from a wind generator is dependent on a number of site and installation factors.  The largest single factor is the wind resource.   An initial estimate can be obtained using the US DOE wind map for your state.   Click here for the list of maps.  Contact us for a list of factors you should consider before purchasing a large-scale wind generator such as this unit.
