Large Hydroelectric Turbine Generators

We also offer these larger hydroelectric systems.   Sizes start at about 10kW and are available to 1 MW and larger.  These are custom designed to your site parameters and consist of ac generators driven by Pelton turbines and some other types.  The system can be designed for off-grid independent operation or to be tied to the grid to sell back any excess electricity to your local power utility.

A typical system consists of a Pelton turbine with one or more nozzles, ac brushless generator, belt or direct drive, 50Hz or 60Hz single phase or three phase output, 120/240VAC or higher, frequency protection and load management controller/governor.  Typical factory lead times are 6-10 weeks after complete technical data for site is submitted with order.

To estimate power output of your hydro site read our Hydroelectric information page and use the online output calculator or click the thumbnail image below:

Keep in mind that a system will cost less per kW for higher head sites rather than higher flow.  Example pricing for stand-alone systems rated at 120/240VAC 60Hz 1800 rpm direct-drive brushless alternator single nozzle Pelton turbine designed for a 6" pipeline with frequency protection, load management controller and governor are as follows:

* 20kW, 450 ft dynamic head, approx $14,000.

* 25kW, 550 ft dynamic head, approx $16,000.
